Junior Giants Baseball

Junior Giants is a summer baseball league, run free of charge for children ages 5-18 living in inner cities and rural suburbs throughout Central and Northern California, Oregon and Neveda. The Junior Giants baseball program is unique in that it is a non-competitive program that places a higher value on character than on wins and losses. Junior Giants works to instill values in the "classroom" of a baseball setting, educating kids on both the game of baseball and the game of life.

More than 13,000 youth participate in the Junior Giants program each year in over 70 leagues serving over 150 cities. The Giants Community Fund provides jerseys, hats, baseball equipment necessary to run a league. The Fund provides tickets to select Giants games for the youth to attend a game.

Golden Gate Park Free Concerts

The Golden Gate Park Band has been playing free public concerts on Sundays in Golden Gate Park continuously since September of 1882.

Our free Sunday afternoon concert season begins April and continues most Sundays to our season finale in October. Concerts begin at 1:00 p.m. and last about two hours. This season we will return to our home venue, the Spreckles Temple of Music at the Music Concourse in Golden Gate Park.

The Band plays a great variety of music that includes classic band favorites, opera, marches, Broadway show tunes, orchestral transcriptions, novelty tunes, folk music, and big band swing. We also feature soloists from within the band and guest artists throughout our season.

Whale Watching Blue & Humpback Whales at the Farallon Islands

The Farallon Islands, just 27 miles off San Francisco, lie amid the Gulf of the Farallones National Marine Sanctuary, a food-rich marine ecosystem which attracts whales, dolphins, seals and seabirds each summer and fall, to feed and to breed. Researchers have catalogued hundreds of individual humpbacks and blue whales as seasonal feeding residents. Twenty three species of marine mammals, including 18 species of whales and dolphins, can be found here.

The Farallon Islands National Wildlife Refuge is the largest seabird rookery in the contiguous United States with nesting Tufted Puffins, Pigeon Guillemots, Rhinoceros Auklets, Shearwaters, and other species. Island beaches are covered with sea lions, including massive Steller's sea lions, now on the Endangered Species List.
