Golden Gate Park Free Concerts

The Golden Gate Park Band has been playing free public concerts on Sundays in Golden Gate Park continuously since September of 1882.

Our free Sunday afternoon concert season begins April and continues most Sundays to our season finale in October. Concerts begin at 1:00 p.m. and last about two hours. This season we will return to our home venue, the Spreckles Temple of Music at the Music Concourse in Golden Gate Park.

The Band plays a great variety of music that includes classic band favorites, opera, marches, Broadway show tunes, orchestral transcriptions, novelty tunes, folk music, and big band swing. We also feature soloists from within the band and guest artists throughout our season.

Join a Rallye

A car rallye has been described as an extremely large board game: public streets are the board, and your car is your playing piece. In each car, the driver and navigator(s) carefully follow instructions that direct them along a given course. There is a friendly competition at the finish to see which teams followed the course most accurately.

The Rallye Club (TRC) produces gimmick rallyes and timed rallyes. These rallyes come in various shapes and sizes, but they are all non-racing events held on open public roads. Rallye teams include friends, couples, and entire families, and any type of vehicle can be used.

Twin Peaks

The Twin Peaks are two hills with an elevation of about 904 feet (276 m, North Peak) and 910 feet (277 m, South Peak) that are located in San Francisco, California. They are the second highest hills in San Francisco, after Mount Davidson. The two hills are part of the Twin Peaks Natural Area, which occupies about 31 acres.

Twin Peaks Boulevard is the only road that goes to the summit of the peaks, and on the north side of the hills it connects to Christmas Tree Point, where there is a parking lot and an observation area offering unobstructed views of most San Francisco and the San Francisco

Decode the San Jose Semaphore

SEMAPHORE: a visual apparatus for communicating messages over distance.

San Jose Semaphore, by artist Ben Rubin, is a permanent public artwork commissioned by Adobe Systems Incorporated in collaboration with the City of San Jose’s Office of Cultural Affair’s Public Art Program.

Located within the top floors of Adobe’s Almaden Tower headquarters in San Jose, California, San Jose Semaphore is a multi-sensory kinetic artwork that illuminates the San Jose skyline with the transmission of a coded message. The content of the San Jose Semaphore’s message is a mystery; cracking the encryption technique and deciphering the message is posed as a challenge for the public. To the first person or group to successfully crack the code, Adobe will award bragging rights and acknowledgment on both the Adobe website (www.adobe.com) and the San Jose Semaphore website.
